Mike,
a Los Angeles native, has been active in the acoustic and kids music
scene for many wonderful years. Mike has played in several
local bands -- see his discography link
-- and continues his energetic solo vocal/guitar/songwriter career
here in Los Angeles. See the concert link
for upcoming dates and more comments below by Mike.
Mike
also has shared a decade as a teacher of kids and teaching young
children to sing. Recently, Mike has appeared on KCET's preschool
show "A
Place of Our Own," including an episode on music, and has
been invited back for their second season.
And
in Mike's own words...
"From
that night, as a young dude, when I stepped inside a makeshift club
in downtown L.A. to see The Plugz, The Weirdos, Suburban Lawns,
and the Penetrators, I heard my calling. I also lost my shoe. I
got my hands on any record I could find by any band I saw. But the
best thing was, I could go to any club any night of the week and
get another lesson by the spirit of rock and roll-up close, wild
and free.
After many bands and interesting collaborations, I bunked with Three
Bean Salad and Satellite
Dogs. Three
Bean consisted of close friends and the beautiful punk music
I mentioned earlier. It was complete abandonment, a sweaty spectacle,
and we loved every song we played. The Satellite Dogs grew into
close friends, and played the songs of Mike Debe and myself. The
album coming soon is only a part of the story, but it does represent
a lot of work, kind of like our own jar of special secret recipe
homemade preserves.
Sometimes I'm by myself singing and playing, which is nice, because
I can spend a little more time reflecting how much I enjoying writing
and playing music while I'm doing it.
Spending every weekday with the children in our class influenced
me to give them a musical memento a few years back; a collection
of music done our way-- a little faster, a little louder, sometimes
slow and reflective. Someday it will be available, but kids can
write me
for one, as I have a few to give away to people under 10. Allowing
children to hear music -- any or all kinds -- is a wonderful thing,
and necessary too. If you're interested in coming to a sing-along
performance, check out (www.gigij.net).
It'll be the most fun you have all week.
I invite you to come see me, or listen to some of my songs (and
still come see me). I hope you enjoy them. I enjoyed making them.
Thanks for checking out my site."
